Care of necklaces
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes after several
weeks of exposure to air. If you want it to keep that shiny silver
look, then the best way to store your necklace
is in a sealable sandwich bag. This will minimize the contact
of air with the silver. If you like the darkened metal look,
then you don't need to store it in any special way.
Wearing your
necklace in the shower or while swimming is also not recommended,
as the water or chemicals can weaken the metal or discolor
the stones.
If you have a necklace made of crystals or semi-precious
stones, you can make it especially shiny and clean before a night
out. Simply take any smooth cloth (an old cotton shirt, cotton
beauty gloves) and wet it in rubbing alcohol, then rub all over
each bead and chain link. A baby wipe also works. The shine is
incredible and makes the necklace extra sparkly. Make sure you
don't use a towel, because the loops can catch on the wire-wrap
and you'll have threads snagged in your necklace. |
